Health care is the number one economic driver of the San Gabriel Valley economy and has shown steady growth over the past 10 years. Today, there are 115,000 jobs in healthcare -an increase of nearly 40 percent since 2003.  Eighteen percent of the region's jobs deliver some form of health care service.

The San Gabriel Valley region is home to some of the most prestigious hospitals, research facilities and healthcare groups in California. This includes Southern California's Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, which oversees healthcare to 3.5 million Southern California members, as well as City of Hope,  a designated Comprehensive Cancer Center - the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Society.

The San Gabriel Valley's renowned hospital facilities also attract businesses in related sectors.  The San Gabriel Valley has growing concentrations in scientific research, technical consulting, pharmaceutical & medical manufacturing and druggist wholesalers. 

Health care industry growth is supported by access to talent available at institutions such as CalTech, Azusa Pacific University, Western University and Cal Poly Pomona. The region's five community colleges - Pasadena City CollegeMt. San Antonio CollegeRio Hondo CollegeEast Los Angeles College and Citrus College - are also reliable suppliers of nurses, EMTs, and paramedics.
