Thank you for visiting El Sereno High Schools website. For over 30 years, El Sereno has been the flagship for independent study high schools in the state of California. El Sereno was one of the first independent study high schools established in coordination with the California Department of Education.
El Sereno is located on the Alternative Learning Center campus, in the San Juan Unified School District, and serves the entire district. El Sereno is WASC accredited. All credits earned at El Sereno are transferable to other high schools or higher learning institutions.
Self-motivated students often find great success at El Sereno. Juniors and Seniors tend to be the most successful with our independent study program since they often keep the goal of graduation in their foresight. El Sereno also accepts freshmen and sophomores upon approval.
Independent study uses the same district-adopted textbooks and curriculum that all high schools in the district use. It is our unique delivery method that marks the difference between attending a traditional high school versus attending our independent study high school. Students are held to the same district and state standards as any other California high school student.
Students gave the following reasons as to why El Sereno met their needs: flexible hours, one-on-one teaching, and the option of learning at their own pace. Relationships built, between students and teachers, based on open communication and developed trust are the key to success for El Sereno students.

With all of the Parkway's natural beauty, you would never guess you were just a few miles east of downtown Sacramento!Because of our excellent riverside location and two-acre park, American River Raft Rentals, Inc. is able to organize rafting trips for groups of any size. Our oak-studded park includes picnic tables, running water, and restrooms, all available for our customers.Simply make a reservation or just show up between 9 am and noon to rent a raft. You will then walk your raft the short walk down to the river and head 6 miles downstream to River Bend Park.When you are finished we will collect the equipment from you and put you on a bus back to the top where you started.
