BAJA was formed in 1998 and currently has approximately 350 active members who regularly participate in club-sponsored senior sports activities (including softball, golf, and bowling) plus engage in fundraising and volunteer efforts to assist local charities and civic activities.
Membership is open to all persons age fifty (50) and over, male and female, who reside in the general area near Green Valley, Arizona. The Clubs geographic territory extends along the I-19 corridor from Sahuarita to Nogales, including Green Valley, Amado, Ron Rico, and contiguous areas. Ballet Continental
Young Artists' Community Ballet, Inc. (also known as Ballet Continental) was established in 1985 as a non-profit dance company to foster and develop an enriched performing group for young aspiring dancers within the surrounding communities of Southern Arizona (Pima and Santa Cruz counties).
As a performing company, Ballet Continental is comprised of young artists ranging from ages 12 through adult who are selected for each performing season by a yearly audition process. These auditions enable the dancers to be aware of the professional selection process. Ballet Continental dancers, actors, and performers come from many communities of Southern Arizona including Tucson, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Amado, Tubac, Tumacacori, Rio Rico, and Nogales.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Lisa Baker DiGiacomo, the artistic directors are in charge of rehearsing, casting, and producing all company performances. Ballet Continental expands our youth and adult dancers' horizons and experiences as performers and group participants. Our goal is to provide each dancer, performer, and actor (artist) involved a broader challenge and professional dance and performance experience.
As a result of the continued professional growth, Ballet Continental is a dance company recognized statewide.

It was a balmy day in Green Valley in the fall of 1981 when a young man came up and introduced himself as Jack Stone. He had moved to Green Valley from Chicago to help sell condominiums. He had noticed the Star of David necklace Ros was wearing and asked if we were Jewish. He had been looking for some Jewish friends, to no avail, and came to the conclusion that there weren't any Jews in Green Valley. Through a series of outreach actions, a group of about 30 Jewish people found each other and began to celebrate social and Jewish events together.
The group decided to call themselves The Jewish Friendship Club of Green Valley and met more often, on the second Sunday of each month for bagels and coffee at Pima Savings. Money was collected from each of the attendees to offset the costs.
The mission of the club was to establish a viable Jewish presence in Green Valley, where newcomers could meet to find friends and information about activities in town. We adopted a pay-as-you-go philosophy to cover the costs of each of our programs by the persons attending. Every affair was a break-even event run by the members who volunteered, without taxing those who did not attend.
