Northern Exposure

Northern Exposure Candle Company began just as a hobby for owners Billy and Kelly Rigoni, of Port Clinton, Ohio. Deciding to try something new, Billy poured his first candle using a saucepan and a hotplate in the back of their shop Northern Exposure Gallery and Custom Framing in April 2015.

They began selling 100% soy candles in their shop on Madison Street in downtown Port Clinton and sales quickly picked up. Word-of-mouth and social media helped draw people downtown to smell the candles and customers began asking about custom scents.

Sensing they were on to something big, they began pouring their own candles, with catchy nautical names and themes to fit the Lake Erie fishing and winery industries and overall lakeside charm. Names like "Nauti Boat Ride," "Ship Faced," "Pirate Pete's Pumpkin Pie," "Yo Ho Ho," and others made customers laugh and gained popularity.

Thus, Northern Exposure Candle Company was born.

The hobby has turned into a full-blown operation, with thousands of candles being poured each day at the Port Clinton store and shipped to customers around the country.

As of May 2016, they make custom candles for world-famous wineries, local businesses, fundraisers and even the worlds largest amusement park, Cedar Point.
