Welcome To

Thrift Smart

For over 40 years, the mission of Silver Horizons has been to provide critical help to extremely low-income senior citizens, and the grandchildren that many seniors are raising, with lifes basics. Today we help seniors (and their family members) living in Albuquerque, and from Santa Fe to Belen with free groceries, household bills, and with minor home repairs.

Our goal at Silver Horizons is to do more than help keep the lights on or help a struggling senior survive. We work to help seniors feel safe and secureand remain in their own homes. We hope to improve our quality of life. Thats why we now assist with vet bills (so a senior doesnt have to euthanize a buddy just because they cant afford a vet bill), and we help pay for past-due internet service (to keep an isolated senior connected to the outside world).

Silver Horizons Mission is to provide critical help to extremely low-income seniors with lifes basics: food, utilities, and home repairs/retrofits. Each month, these three core services assist about 5,000 seniors. Most of the seniors we serve live on $700-$900 a month.

Simply stated, our Mission is: To provide critical help for senior citizens with limited income.

Keeping a senior in their home is getting more complicated. More and more, we are realizing that this assistance is not just helping seniors, but also the grandchildren so many of these struggling seniors are raising. Almost 39% of the seniors we assist are raising their grandchildren. Also, many seniors are now seeing their adult children return home.

Proceeds from Silver Horizons' thrift store, Thrift Smart (3100-A San Mateo Blvd NE 87110), support Silver Horizons' efforts to assist senior citizens.
