As Boise's trees age, some eventually need to be removed for public safety and to maintain a healthy urban forest. While some trees can be pruned to extend their life, others may be too hazardous or diseased to save. Community Forestry staff provide free inspections to assess each tree and determine if removal is necessary. If a public tree must be removed, a notice will be posted to inform neighbors and allow time for questions. Tree removals from public rights-of-way are handled by the city at no cost to adjacent homeowners, and whenever possible, large trees are replaced with new ones to continue growing Boise’s beautiful canopy.
