Closed-Die Forging

At Pursuit Aerospace, we’re leaders in closed-die forging, specializing in crafting unique and challenging contoured shapes. Our expertise spans precision, near-net, hybrid, upset, and extrusion forging processes. With a range of mechanical and hydraulic presses ranging from 500 to 12,000 tons we can forge parts weighing up to 135 pounds to meet your exact needs.

So, what is closed-die forging? Also known as impression-die forging, it’s a process where raw metal is pressed between two dies with contoured impressions, shaping the final part. As the metal fills the die cavities, any excess called flash is squeezed out and removed in a post-forge trimming operation. This method allows us to create highly precise, repeatable forgings with complex shapes, requiring minimal machining.
