Students read books of their choice within their reading level (ZPD), and then take a quiz on the book to earn points for their Reading and English classes. Mr. Slocum also hosts contests each quarter to encourage students to "Keep Reading!!!". Prizes in previous contests have included gift cards and video game systems. At the end of last school year, we gave away Apple Airpods, a Nintendo Switch Lite, and a Nintendo Switch!
STAR Reading is a formative assessment that measures students' reading levels. It is typically administered quarterly, or at a teacher's discretion to check up on students' reading achievement.
