Hatha Yoga uses asanas (yoga postures) and pranayamas (breathing exercises) to align and balance the body. The active stretches and asanas are held for several minutes to bring peace and balance to the mind and body as well as increase muscle strength and endurance. Hatha yoga is performed at a relaxing pace to calm the mind in preparation for spiritual practices, such as prayer and meditation.
