Tinnitus is a condition in which a person perceives hearing a sound that is not actually present in their environment. It is often described as a persistent “ringing in the ears” but can really include any type of sound including a buzzing, whooshing, ticking, hissing, or even whistling. There are a variety of causes of tinnitus including hearing loss, certain health conditions, certain medications, and more.
