Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s to help people heal from psychological trauma. EMDR is based on the idea that negative experiences can be stored in the brain as unprocessed memories, which can cause emotional distress and lead to physical symptoms. EMDR helps individuals process these memories so they no longer have an impact on their lives. The technique involves having clients focus on a traumatic memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation, such as tapping or sound. This helps to desensitize the individual to the traumatic memory and reprocess it into more adaptive thoughts and beliefs. At Zest For Life Coaching, we use this powerful technique to help our clients move past difficult experiences and create a healthier, more balanced life.
