The Village of Mt. Zion is pleased to announce the successful negotiation of a competitive electricity supply rate for our residents through our Municipal Aggregation Program. Following an RFP process, Constellation Energy offered a rate of $0.07859/kWh, effective from June 2022, under a 36-month agreement. Despite an increase from the previous rate of $0.04240/kWh, this new rate remains favorable in comparison to Ameren’s projected rates, which include a summer rate of $0.0946/kWh and a fall rate of $0.11502/kWh for the coming year.
The decision to secure a 36-month rate was influenced by several factors, including the anticipated rise in energy costs due to the retirement of coal and natural gas plants, current global energy market dynamics, and restrictions on Russian energy. This agreement provides stability and predictability in energy costs for our residents. Importantly, the program is opt-out, meaning residents and small businesses are automatically enrolled unless they choose to opt out or secure an individual agreement with another provider. Should market rates decrease significantly, residents have the flexibility to opt out and return to Ameren, though re-enrollment in the aggregation program is restricted for 12 months.
