Helping The Family

The first few months after a loss are when grieving friends and relatives need your support the most. Let them know you’re still there for them, even after the funeral.

It can be uncomfortable to talk to someone in grief, but don’t let that stop you from reaching out. You don’t need to have all the answers or give advice. While you can’t take away their pain, you can offer comfort and support by staying in touch and listening when they want to talk.

Many grieving people find it hard to ask for help. They might feel guilty about receiving attention or be too depressed to ask. Make it easier for them by offering specific help, like saying, “I’m going shopping this afternoon. Do you need anything?” or “I made stew for dinner. Can I drop by and bring you some?”
