Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) offers comprehensive support for Multilingual Learners (MLs) through a variety of tailored language assistance programs. Upon enrollment, students with a primary home language other than English are screened for English proficiency using the WIDA Screener, and those identified as MLs receive language support services until they meet the exit criteria. Services include direct instruction, classroom support, and separate ESOL classes, all aimed at developing strong English literacy and academic success. Additionally, the ML Program Office provides ongoing professional development for teachers to enhance instructional strategies for ML students. Annual assessments ensure students progress towards English proficiency, preparing them for academic challenges across core subjects.
