Power Outage Common Causes

There are many different reasons why an outage may occur, but the majority come from fallen trees and branches during storms. Having a well-maintained right-of-way decreases these types of outages. Therefore OREMC has an ongoing plan that works to keep power lines free of limbs and tall growing brush. Please help OREMC by allowing this necessary tree trimming on your property. If you are planting, please plant new trees well away from power lines (at least 30 feet) to avoid problems in the future.

Other causes of outages include animals, nature, vehicle/equipment accidents or fires. Members can help with what we call “customer problem” outages. These are outages on the consumer side of the meter, meaning that a check of the circuit breaker most likely will fix the problem. Below is a snapshot of the outages that occurred on OREMC lines in 2018.
