In 2011, REMSA partnered with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to develop a team of experienced paramedics and nurses specially trained in advanced backcountry medicine. REMSA Search and Rescue (SAR) medics provide point of injury medical care and support during search and rescue incidents. These missions involve critically ill or injured patients who might otherwise have a delay in medical care due to limited access to the various remote mountains, deserts, canyons and lakes within Washoe County.

These medics and nurses are attached to the Washoe County Sheriff’s HASTY Team which specializes in technical search and rescue. REMSA’s SAR group provides ALS-level medical support on trainings and missions including backcountry rescue, high/low angle rope rescue, mine rescue, swift water rescue, rescue swimmers, dive team, helicopter hoist rescue, man-tracking and advanced medical support.
