First Things First
First Things First is dedicated to ensuring that Arizona's children have the best possible start in life. Operating at both state and local levels, we focus on preparing children for kindergarten by investing in proven programs and innovative strategies through grants to community organizations. Our professional expertise and oversight support local programs and statewide initiatives, while our collaborations with other early childhood system partners amplify our impact. We are committed to providing children and families with the resources they need to thrive.
As Arizona’s sole public funding source exclusively dedicated to early childhood, First Things First invests in programs and services addressing the development, education, and health needs of children from birth to age five. We administer statewide initiatives and award regional and statewide grants through competitive requests for grant applications (RFGAs). Funds are distributed based on the population of young children in Arizona communities, with a strong emphasis on direct support to children and families through a network of community providers. Our strategic approach is designed to ensure that more Arizona children arrive at kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed.
